UFC 161: Evans vs Henderson Fight Pick & Preview

UFC 161 Fight Pick Henderson Evans
Later this evening, UFC 161 will feature some great match ups!  This UFC has flown under the radar.  Mostly because there's no title on the line in the main event.  But, there is a career on the line. Dan Henderson takes on Rashad Evans in the main event and this is a must win fight for both, but a loss for Henderson could end his career in the UFC. Let's take a closer look at these fighters and then I'll make my main event fight pick for UFC 161.

Dan Henderson is reaching the end of his legendary career.  He has an overall MMA record of 29-9.  He's 4-1 in his last five and in those wins he has impressive TKO/KO  wins over Rafael Calvacante, Renato Sobral, and the extremely impressive KO victory over legend, Fedor Emelianenko.

Dan Henderson definitely has heavy hands, but he's also 42.  His strong wrestling, KO power, and granite chin have helped him become an MMA legend, but time is running out and he's going to have fight mistake free in order to beat Rashad Evans and make one last run at the title.

Rashad Evans comes in with an overall record of 17-3 but has struggled lately.  He's coming off of two straight decision losses and need a big win if he's planning on staying within the elite in the UFC's light heavyweight division.

Rashad Evans is one of the most athletic fighters in the UFC's light heavyweight division and he's used that along with great wrestling and quick hands to make his mark.  His last two losses have come via decision, if Evans is going to get back on track, he will need to kick up his level of aggression and utilize his athletic ability.

In this fight, Dan Henderson will have trouble using his KO power.  Rashad Evans is extremely crafty and will find a way to avoid it.  As the fight progresses, Rashad's athletic ability will begging to outshine Henderson's aging MMA skills.  Look for Evans to begin dictating the fight as the fight progresses. Especially late in the second round and in the third.  I see Evans either winning via decision or a ground and pound attack.
