U of MMA Club Nokia Fight Results and Recap

U of MMA Nokia Fights

On March 30, The University of Mixed Martial Arts brought cage fighting back to Downtown Los Angeles. UofMMA has been holding their MMA events at Club Nokia, and this night was no different. Promoter Turi Altavilla and matchmaker Jay Tan did not disappoint the MMA community. The night featured 13 fights, with two of the fights having championship belts on the line. Now onto the fight highlights.


Fight # 1
Bruno Casillas (Valhalla ETC) vs  Dominick Reyes (Cage Combat Academy)
Round 1
Reyes landed chingasos. Reyes went for takedowns but got stuffed.
Round 2
Reyes landed a hard chingaso and dropped Casillas. Reyes took the back and landed GNP. Casillas was able to get up. Reyes got the fight to the ground again, and dropped more GNP.
Round 3
The fighters went back and forth, exchanging chingasos.  The fight ended up on the ground, but quickly got back up.

Reyes wins via unanimous decision

Fight #2
Juan Orta (Lightining MMA) vs Saverio Dalessandro (Glendale Fighting Club)
Round 1
Dalessandro was the aggressive fighter and was landing chingasos. Orta kept his composure and landed a few of his own. Dalessandro kept up his aggression, but Orta caught him with a good chingaso, and the ref stopped the fight.

Orta wins via KO

Fight #3
Demar George (Dream Killer Fight Team) vs  Luis Carmona (10th Planet Costa Mesa)
Round 1
Both fighters clinched and worked their game against the cage. When they released, George was able to land a good shot and got a takedown at the end of the round.
Round 2
Carmona got the takedown and worked his way to the mount. Carmona was able to land GNP.
Round 3
Carmona got a single leg takedown and landed GNP.

Carmona wins via unanimous decision.

Fight #4
Erik Van Der Lee (Lightning MMA) vs Milton Arguello (10th Planet Van Nuys)
Round 1
The fighters clinched and battled against the cage. When they releases, Arguello landed chingasos.
Round 2
Van Der Lee got a single leg takedown. Arguello got a sweep and worked his way to the back. Arguello went for an armbar, but Van Der Lee defended. Van Der Lee got a leg sweep to end the round.
Round 3
Van Der Lee got a takedown and Arguello worked for a submission. Arguello got the tap a few seconds after the ten-second warning bell.

Arguello wins via triangle submission

Fight #5
Jose Jovel (Dream Killer Fight Team) vs  Ronald Minera (Nelson's Boxing)
Round 1
Minera got a throw, but Jovel reversed and worked for a submission. Minera got his own reversal and landed a few chingasos
Round 2
Jovel got a takedown, but Minera used his guard to defend. The ref stood the fighters up and the fighters clinched. When they released, Minera landed shots and the ref stopped the fight.

Minera wins via TKO

Fight #6
Oscar Jimenez (XFIT) vs  Sven Manseau (10th Planet Van Nuys)
Round 1
Both fighters landed chingasos with neither fighter taking serious damage.
Round 2
Jimenez got the takedown and moved to side control. He stood up, but then went back into Manseau's guard. Manseau went for a submission as the round ended.
Round 3
Jimenez landed some shots, moved to the clinch, and got the takedown. Manseau used an omaplata attempt to reverse and move his way to the mount.

Manseau wins via unanimous decision

Fight #7
Pious Enilolobo, Jr. (BJMUTA/Flying Kick Martial Arts) vs  Michael Jackson (Systems Training Center)
Round 1
Enilolobo threw a punch and went in for a takedown. He moved to side control and worked for an Americana. He switched and got the armbar submission.

Fight #8
A. J. Bryant (XFIT) vs Emilas Jimenez (10th Planet Costa Mesa)
Round 1
Both fighters engaged in the middle of the cage. Jimenez got a single leg takedown, but Bryant was able to get right back up.
Round 2
Bryant landed a few chingasos. Jimenez went for a takedown, but Bryant defended. Bryant landed more shots when Jimenez went for another takedown, and landed even more chingasos when they released.
Round 3
Jimenez went for a takedown. As Bryant defended, Jimenez took the back. Jimenez attempted a rear naked choke. Bryant defended and worked his way back up.

Jimenez wins via split decision

Fight #9
Flavian Pilgrim (PKG) vs Jarett Conner (Upland MMA)
Round 1
Conner got a double leg takedown. When Pilgrim tried to get up, Conner got a suplex and moved to the back. Pilgrim recovered and ended up in Conner's guard. Pilgrim moved to side and attempted a kimura to end the round.
Round 2
Conner landed a chingaso that stunned Pilgrim. Conner got a throw and moved to side control. Pilgrim landed a chingasos that stunned Conner, and Conner immediately shot in. Pilgrim defended, as the round ended.
Round 3
Conner shot in, but Pilgrim defended with a guillotine attempt. Pilgrim held on to the neck and landed knees to the body. Pilgrim got a takedown and moved to side control, and then to the back. Pilgrim moved to the side and attempted a head and arm choke with Conner against the cage. Conner defended but Pilgrim landed hard knees to the body.

Pilgrim wins via unanimous decision

Fight #10
Unurjargal Boldpurev (CSW) vs  David Sands ( Sweet Science Boxing & MMA)
Round 1
Boldpurev got a takedown and moved straight to the mount. He kept busy the whole time, landing GNP and going for submissions.
Round 2
Boldpurev got the takedown and moved to side control. He moved to the back and finished the fight with a rear naked choke.

Fight #11
Shohei Yamamoto (CSW) vs  Dean Bo Moskowitz (House of Champions)
Round 1
Both fighters came out firing hard chingasos. Yamamoto landed an overhand right to end the fight.

Fight #12
University of MMA Light Heavyweight Championship
Jerell Cephas (Xtreme Couture) vs Ozzy Diaz (NZT Pankration)
Round 1
Both fighters met in the middle of the cage. Diaz landed an overhand right to end the fight in only 18 seconds.

Diaz wins via Knockout

Fight #13
University of MMA Featherweight Championship
Jacob Rosales (CSW) vs  Ryan Lilley
Round 1
Rosales got a bodylock then threw Lilley. When Lilley attempted to get up, Rosales got a suplex, twice. He moved to the mount then the back. Rosales attempted an armbar from the back, then again from the guard when Lilley reversed.
Round 2
Rosales put his head down, rushed in, and threw chingasos. He landed a few, but Rosales weathered the storm. Rosales got a takedown and moved  from dominant position to dominant position. Rosales threw chingasos and submission attempts.
Round 3
Lilley threw a kick that Roslaes caught and used to attempt a takedown.  Lilley stuffed the attempt and he was able to get his own takedown. Rosales worked submission attempts from the bottom.
