This Saturday, August 18, Strikeforce will feature a women's MMA fight as the main event. Ronda Rousey vs. Sarah Kauman will be going down and several questions will be answered. Is Ronda Rousey for real? Can a female MMA fight draw an audience? Will this fight be the beginning of a push for the UFC to bring women's MMA into the Octagon? First, let's take a look at these two fighters, and then I'll make my fight pick.
For the casual MMA fan, Sarah Kaufman has flown under the radar. But, she's no joke and sports a record of 15-1 to prove it. Ten of those wins have come via KO/TKO. Her stand up is exceptional and she can hold her own on the ground. Even so, she's coming in as a heavy underdog in this fight with Ronda Rousey.
Ronda Rousey has plain and simply run through the competition. She went undefeated as an amateur MMA fighter, submitting all three opponents with an armbar. Rousey quickly went pro and continued to armbar everyone in her path. She's 5-0 as a pro and has won every fight in the first round with an armbar submission. Sarah Kaufman, though, will be her toughest opponent yet.
This fight will be a battle of Rousey wanting to get the fight into the grappling realm while Kaufman will try to use her stand up to keep Rousey's grappling at bay. Unfortunately for Kauman, Rousey is too good at employing her game plan and will relentlessly go after some sort of clinch. Rousey will then work from there and get the fight to the ground where she will dominate.
