Yes! Strikeforce is still around. And, later this evening, their Heavyweight World Grand Prix comes to a conclusion. Josh Barnett will meet Daniel Cormier in the final! The winner of this fight will be on a fast track to the UFC and a title shot in the major leagues of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). Josh Barnett is an MMA vet. Daniel Cormier has risen through the ranks quickly. Let's take a closer look at these two MMA Heavyweight contenders.
Josh Barnett is a seasoned MMA veteran with his first professional fight dating back to 1997. He's still only 34 years old, and is coming into tonights fight on an eight fight winning streak. He's a submission master with 19 of his 34 overall wins coming by way of submission. Don't mistake his submission and grappling mastery as the only thing he can do, as he also has 7 wins coming by way of KO/TKO.
Daniel Cormier entered MMA with a strong wrestling background and added some solid boxing skills to propel him to the top of the Heavyweight division in Strikeforce. He's coming into tonight's Grand Prix finale with an unblemished record of 9-0. Cormier is a solid contender in the division but he lacks experience versus top heavyweight fighters in the Heavyweight division.
While I like Cormier's athletic ability and punching power, I'm going to to with experience in this fight. Josh Barnett has been in dog fights with top fighters in big shows and I think that experience will pay off in this fight.
Look for Barnett to grind out the first few rounds and take Cormier into deep waters where his experience will take over. Barnett will have to watch out for Cormier's power, but if he can avoid that, then he will sail into victory.
